History of the club
The Royal Connaught Boat Club was originally established in 1868 as the “Poona Boat Club” on the banks of the Mula-Mutha River in Pune. It was created to promote rowing and water-based sports during the British era, using a lake formed by a bund constructed upstream of the Fitzgerald Bridge.
